Indeed. Friends are wonderful people to have!
I think you should look for ways to match the guitar with the tone set by the other instruments. I'm not sure how to put it. It sort of sounds very MIDIy. I feel like it contrasts to the atmosphere set by the previous instruments.
The ending was quite abrupt. A delay or simple fade sounds like it would have fit in well. Other than that, everything else is fine!

balancedbirds responds:

Abrupt?I'll listen to it more times.
In fact,I haven't gotten full use of my software.I'll use more instruments gradually.

Interestingly enough, I don't have a lot to say about this one. The panning and volume levels are fine. Perhaps the non-string instruments could have used a bit more reverberation.
Interesting. Is this your first song? I await to hear the result! It can be sad indeed. It caused me to reflect without realization.

I feel like it goes on for a little too long considering its consistency. Oh, and did you give the bass some reverberation? Like around the 1:30 mark. It sounds like it could benefit from some to fit your ambiance. The transition from where it gets muffled is good, also keeping in mind that you made sure everything else followed through the same. The delay on the piano sounds good, but I think it could have been better with a raise in volume.
It sounds good for your first! Keep up the persistence. :)

SierraRising responds:

Yes, the bass had some minor reverb throughout the song. I'll be sure to raise the piano next time.
Thank you for the kind review!

Wow. The first half reminds me a lot of Metroid Prime. Interesting.
Anyway, I think this could have benefited a bit more with other variations in sounds. By the sound of this, I also feel it would have been much better if the main melody didn't stay so consistent, but that's probably just a nitpick. A little extra panning to make a sound or two a teensy-bit distant would have contributed to the ambient feel. Overall, I like what you've done here!

SierraRising responds:

I'm not that good with constructing melodies, so once I have a sixteen bar loop I usually just stop there, but more variation is something I'm working to improve on.
Thanks for the review, it helped a lot!

Wow! As soon as it started, I took a liking to it.
Nothing here feels out of place, as everything contributes to its direction. The good reverberation really gives the sounds a place in just about every area, and none of them feel "lonesome". The only minor thing I must mention is that it probably would have worked better as a loop, or could have ended better, as it felt like an abrupt fade. Besides that, this is awesome!

Joelle responds:

Thanks for the review ♥

I decided to listen to this with headphones considering the genre. I was not disappointed!
The panning is fine to me -- not too much, and not too little. The variety of sounds fits in just nicely. They're consistent, which is good, although I feel the vocals around 1:24 sort of broke the consistency, and maybe using the same sounds you were already using would have been better kept.
Other than that, this is great!

Great song! It almost seems like I can feel the inspiration you have gotten from the artwork (I must also say that I was able to stumble upon a new, favorite artist in the process)! When I took your description into account, I enjoyed the song a bit more. Somewhere after the 2:40 min. mark, however, I feel that it would have been best to build upon it a bit more. Other than that, you have done a great job!

JoshuaHughes responds:

Thank you so much! These reviews are definitely pointing me in directions I like. My future projects are going to sound so much better and I can't wait to show them to everyone!

You did well. The romantic tone is certainly consistent throughout, and I see no odd transitions. The beginning, I must say, contrasts significantly to the rest of the piece, but I see this in a good light and find it interesting. I assume that was one of the ominous parts? I feel like such ominous parts were hinted briefly at times as well, which I like. This is great, especially knowing you completed this in under two hours!

Joelle responds:

Thank you! ♥

Nice work with this! The introduction is great. I didn't notice any rough transitions -- everything flowed smoothly. I especially like what you had after 2:58. At the back of my head, I feel like something was missing at the very end, but I wouldn't count it against your score.
Overall great work! I wouldn't mind getting this stuck in my head.

JoshuaHughes responds:

Thanks again, man!

This is great! It also loops very well. The beginning builds up in a way that makes me imagine entering a warp drive.

JoshuaHughes responds:

I can picture that. To me, it sounds so cheesy when looking back. When I was making this, I thought it was the greatest thing I every made.

Friendly internet lurker that likes creative stuff! I love video game music and like to make some when I'm not covering other pieces. I may or may not be failing to get better. :D
